Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy the great taste of food cooked on the grill all year long with this indoor barbeque grill. The countertop appliance features a large 120-square-inch cooking surface with a nonstick coating for searing foods just like on an outdoor grill. In addition, excess fat drips into the removable drip pan below for healthier cooking, and by filling the drip pan with water first, food grills while the kitchen remains virtually smoke-free. The powerful 850-watt heating element provides adjustable thermostat control for cooking food at the right temperature for the job, whether it's bratwursts, shish kabobs, or veggie burgers for the whole family. Other highlights include cool-touch handles and base for safety, easy cleanup thanks to the nonstick grilling surface and dishwasher-safe drip pan, and a stacking design for compact storage when not in use. An instruction manual with recipes comes included. The 850-watt indoor barbeque grill measures 13 by 18-1/5 by 3-1/2 inches.
better grill than its big 200 square inch brother
I have the larger Sanyo electric grill and it is great, just a little too big for my kitchen counter. (it is out in my RV, working great) But this baby is just right for my kitchen.
It has a little less wattage than the bigger model but actually seems to heat up a little faster. I like the design of the grilling surface better than the design of the bigger unit (deeper grooves, and a good lip around the edge). I like the water tray that is black instead of aluminum in color, and it is easier to remove and pour the little amount of water out (1/2 cup of water is used to keep the smoke down).
My cooking routine is to set it up, pour a 1/2 cup water into the tray, spray a little canola oil on the grill, turn the control up to high to pre-heat for about 3 minutes, then slap the seasoned steak, burger, chicken, ribs, etc. on the grill. I sear in some good grill marks on each side, then turn the heat down to medium and finish cooking at a slower pace, depending upon thickness of the piece being cooked. My first try was a T-Bone steak, and it was great!
After the food is done, I turn the heat control off. For cleanup, I place a couple of dripping wet paper towels on the grill surface, turn the heat control back to high for a minute or so. When the steam starts rising of the wet towels, I shut of the power, and just wipe down the grill with those same paper towels, then dry, it cleans very easily.
Nothing is quite like the burning and flames of a good charcole fire, but indoors or out, this cooks very, very well, with bare minumum of effort.
I do recommend aluminum foil to cover the grill and the food to speed pre-heating and to keep splatters down. I think I may get some disposable shallow metal foil trays that match the grill size, to use as lids, they look like they should work well.
Could not be happier - LOVE it!!
At 120 square inches, we wondered if the larger, 200 inch model might make more sense. But we're two people and rarely serve guests; so, the size and energy savings are perfect. We loved the grill we wore out before we ordered this, but this has a lighter weight cook surface, which makes for faster heating (more energy savings! :-)) and easier handling for cleaning. The non-stick surface is gr8 - washes up easily; whereas, we used our pressure washer on our last grill. We like the removable drip pan, which is easy to wrap in foil to avoid that nasty cleaning job. We did not believe that we could possibly like anything as well as our previous unit, but we like this grill sooooo much better that we don't even remember who manufactured the last one. We hope this lasts as long!
Sanyo Grill
This grill is truly smokeless and very easy to clean as advertised. Cooks a little slower then an outdoor grill and doesn't give you that true grill taste, but is still a wonderful addition to my kitchen. Would highly recommend.
Here is the perfect grill for the beach, camping, or a weekend getaway to the lake. This portable grill features Weber's patented Flavorizer System, which distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface, essentially eliminating flare-ups.
Amazon.com Review
Weber's Go-Anywhere gas grill adds convenience to the fun of camping and tailgating. This compact unit has a surprisingly generous grilling area--large enough to fit four medium steaks. The push-button ignition system makes lighting the fire easier than ever, and the patented heat-distributing Flavorizer bar ensures that your food cooks evenly and efficiently every time.
You can lock the lid into place with the pivoting legs and carry this lightweight grill around in one hand. Built-in lid hangers allow you to rest the lid on the side of the grill to create an effective barrier against the wind. The triple-nickel-coated steel grate is easy to clean, and the porcelain-enameled steel lid and cooking box are built to last.
I've owned three - while my expensive grill sits un-used
I bought one of these things ten years ago and despite twice replacing it with big, traditional-looking (and very expensive) grills I keep coming back to this one. In fact, when we bought our latest one at a local fireplace/grill store, the owner just couldn't stop talking about this cheap little grill. He confided to me in a low voice that if I were to lift the lid of his own $2500 home gas barbecue, I'd find this little gem sitting inside because it's all he uses too.
Why? It's not ease of cleaning or durability or any of that stuff (they rust out after a few years sitting on the porch). And you'd better buy a big propane bottle with an adapter hose if you don't want to those little gas cylinders to suddenly empty out on you mid-meal while you're cooking for guests... No, the reason I adore this is that it just plain grills better than anything else on the market - and we've tried a lot of them.
My wife, the culinary school grad, thinks it's the "flavorizer" that does it (the metal pan that replaces those awful lava rocks). When we grill salmon we just cover that metal pan with alderwood chips and let the smoke penetrate the fish while it grills with the lid on tight - flat out beating every restaurant or neighborbood grilled fish ever made. Friends of mine simply won't cook salmon for us.
Even though we virtually never clean the thing, it simply does the best job flavor-wise of all our grills. If you crank it up to high for 10 minutes, then grill with the top closed (never open) you get very consistent heat which is the secret to good grilling.
Some cookbook author who writes barbecue books constantly repeats the phrase "Know Your Fire" like a mantra. This fire is 100% consistent, heats up in minutes (again, no lava rocks to soak up heat) and produces superb results for us. If you know your fire, this is the fire to know.
Great little grill
I've owned a Weber Go-Anywhere for a couple of years now and it's been a regular part of my outdoor cooking. Gets up to temperature quickly and is great for grilling simple stuff like salmon, chicken and sausages. The food doesn't taste *quite* as good as my mesquite-fired kettle BBQ but the Go-Anywhere also doesn't take 30 minutes to fire up.
The piezzo lighter flaked out on my Weber a couple of months after I bought it but it's pretty easy to light with a match. As another review mentioned, they do rust pretty quickly but they're really sturdy and basic. It grills as well as it did when I first bought it.
Strongly recommended for folks looking for a small, no-nonsense (or frills) gas BBQ.
Weber Portable Gas Grill
I bought one of these compact units for my mother three years ago. She liked it so much and found it so easy to use that I got one for myself last summer. It is easy to clean and does a great job of cooking small quantities of food in a short time. It is easy to transport and easy on gas. It starts easily and stays lit even on windy days. I found that one end of the grill is cooler than the other which is nice for warming or holding food before serving.
Bayou Classic Outdoor Gas Cookers are the traditional and reliable choice for outdoor cooking. They are portable and can be used for camping, rv's, tailgating, and backyard parties. With a one-piece welded steel frame, these are the strongest cookers commercially made. Most units can be used with or without slide-on extension legs. Bayou Classic Cookers are designed for strength, function and safety, while remaining the most efficient Outdoor Cookers sold.
Bayou Classic SP10 works like a champ!
The Bayou Classic cut about 45 minutes to an hour off of my brew time. Got three gallons of water to a boil in less than half the time of my kitchen range, and held a good strong boil for an hour. If you're a homebrewer looking to leave the stovetop, and go to an outdoor propane cooker, this is the one to buy.
Works great - Lots of heat!
This burner puts out a lot of BTUs but it's also pretty noisy. I use it with a 9 gallon pot and it gets boiling quick. Served my purposes (beer brewing) perfectly!
Works Great, Awesome bargain w/ the super saver shipping
I used the SP10 for the first time last weekend. It was about 50 degrees out and I got a 8 gal. keg of cold tap water up to a boil in about 30 minutes; very impressed. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that because i was using such a large vessel (a bit wider than the unit itself) much of the escaping heat burned a lot of the black paint on the unit and emmited a not too pleasant smell for some time. I guess this is inevitable, and they probably just paint them for astetic reasons, but this is a hot flame! I also bought an extra burner (model BG10) for about $10 and a 20psi regulator kit, so if you had an extra stand or could improvise, that would be another way to go to get the same quality heat.
Cheers!

J'adore ma petit panini grill! Or something like that.
I feel like I am back on the streets of Paris every time I plug in my beautiful Cuisinart Panini and Sandwich Press. This press makes the best grilled cheese sandwich you ever ate, I guarantee it. I love how you can stick a whole hoagie roll or chunk of french bread loaf with sandwich makings inside into it and squish it into a hot & yummy hunk of cheese-oozong goodness. Or, you can use regular bread and make toasty club sandwiches or grilled cheese.
This guy hangs out in the cupboard and is easy to pull out, just plug in and wait for the green light to come on. You can have a quick french dip dinner ready in 5 minutes that everyone will love- also perfect for grilled cheese and tomato soup night- or just want to make some garlic bread to go with your spaghetti without heating up the whole oven? I LOVE my panini press.
It is really easy to clean- although I haven't tried grilling meats or anything beyond sandwiches and bread. Gooey cheese comes off easily and the whole thing wipes down quickly with a damp washcloth.
Elvis would have died over the peanut butter and banana sandwiches we make in this baby! The frying pan's got nothin' on our Panini Press.
Becoming nearly indespensible...
I started out using the Griddler for meats and sandwiches, but now I use it nearly every day to heat beans or mashed potatoes, for frying eggs even for quick carmelizing of small batches of sauces. It seems I find a new way to use the thing nearly once a week. I've had it for six months and it is well used.
The only thing I don't like about it is I have to make certain it tilts slightly forward. The griddles are very shallow and juices and liquid eggs tend to run off the edge if you are not there to control them. When liquids run backward over the edge they tend to collect under the plate where they get burned by the heating elements -- and its damned hard to clean.
The stainless steel is difficult to clean. The outside gets very hot and tends to burn on any oil that makes its way to the front edge of the Griddler. Difficult to get off without resorting to harsh cleaners which scratch the surface.
But, as an everyday appliance it suits my bachleor life style very well and the design is typically Cuisinart: slick industrial. Despite its frustarting flaws I love the dmaned thing-- sort of the waya paraent loves a sloppy teen.
Big time grilling in a compact unit. The Patio Caddie is perfect for small decks, terraces and patios, yet it doesn't skimp on features. It has a rust-resistant porcelain body, heavy-gauge porcelainized cooking grid, heat gauge in the lid, thermostatic handles, and a stable, wobble-free base. The gas grill accommodates a 11 1/2 pound LP tank that is lighter and easy to handle or a 20 pound LP tank. What the gas Patio caddie gives you is perfectly seared, tender and juicy grilled foods, time after time, all year long.
Amazon.com Review
For apartment dwellers with limited outdoor space, Char-Broil created their Patio Caddie grills. Compact yet efficient, the propane grill offers 187 square inches of cooking space, ideal for small households or as a vacation home grill. Activated by a push-button electronic ignition, a 10,000 BTU burner roasts mesquite chicken or a half-dozen bratwurst.
The freestanding grill's body features porcelain-steel construction that resists rusting. Equipped with heavy-gauge porcelain cooking grids, the grill distributes heat evenly while cleaning with ease. A grease catcher collects drippings for simple disposal. Char-broil employed their patented Thermsulate lining to ensure steady temperatures, which can be monitored on the temperature gauge. The grill lid also includes thermostatic handles. The grill's body is supported by a sturdy plastic base and can be moved to and fro on the wheels implemented on two of the grill's legs. For the best care, clean the grates with a mild detergent and avoid use of steel wool and other abrasives. The grill affixes to either an 11-1/2- or 20- pound propane tank. This item requires assembly and necessitates the use of a Phillips screwdriver, wrench and pliers. Hardware is enclosed with the thorough assembly instructions. The Patio Caddie also comes in electric models. A five-year limited warranty covers the main body of this grill while a one-year warranty protects smaller parts. The grill measures 22 by 16-3/4 by 44 inches and weighs 52 pounds upon shipping. Propane tank not included.--Jessica Reuling
good small gas grill
The Patio Caddie is a nice small grill-good for small spaces when you want the convenience of propane. It is well constructed and easy to use. Assembly is a bit of a pain, though nowhere near as bad as their old full size units. If you have a cordless screwdriver and can follow their instructions, it should take about 30 minutes to an hour. It's very easy to use-a push button ignition, burner control on the front, and with the propane tank sitting down below, you have easy access to the valve. There are nice touches like a built in thermometer and a retainer clip so you can hinge the lid on the lip of the grill if you don't have a place to put it when you have the lid off. It does generate a decent amount of heat for a single burner grill-just enough for searing, and the ceramic charcoals do much better than lava rocks. On the bad side, it's hard to see the flame, so it's not exactly easy to tell if you've sucessfully ignited the gas. An electronic battery operated ignition would be a lot nicer. And while easy to wheel around, the small propane tank doesn't cut it-it doesn't hold enough, and if you do the tank exchange instead of filling your old one, no one will accept it. It's great for a small grill-a good step up from a small charcoal grill. If you have the space, you'll be a lot happier with a full size grill. With multiple burners and a lot more BTU power, you'll get better results with a full size grill-and many don't cost much more than the patio caddy. But if you only have enough room for a small grill, this is one of the best on the market.
Have Worn Mine Out
Consider this a long term test. I bought my Patio Caddie out of desperation when another cheap grille died one nice summer Saturday with friends coming over for dinner. I simply wasn't in a mood to spend $400 or $500 for a king kong unit.
What makes a good grille is really simple: it must start every time (it does), it must generate enough heat to cook (it does, but keeping the cover on helps)and it must have high quality grids (it does). On the last point, and what really sets the Patio Caddie Apart, are the heavy porcelainized grids. The are wonderful to cook on, easy to clean, haven't sagged in 5 years use.
Consider this the Honda Civic of grills: I fill the mini-tank once or twice a year for $7 and cook at least once a week year round (in Seattle, no less). It is absolutely the finest chicken cooking device I have ever seen and easily cooks dinner for 4 to 6. No it won't handle a 10 Lb salmon in one shot or cook a dozen burgers for a tribal reunion. And a Honda Civic wont carry an entire NFL team at one time either.
The only downside is that the heat output does become limited below 50 degrees, but that's a function of the propane, not the grill itself.
If you live in a condo or apartment with a small deck, if you're on a budget, or want a portable unit look no further, this is it.
I will be moving on to a bigger and better grille in a couple weeks, and believe it or not, I have a friend who wants my old patio caddie for her condo. Old, greasy and well used, it still has life in it, and she knows how well it cooks. I just hope my new, bigger grille works as well.
Its the best small grill I could find, but...
If you read other reviews people are giving this thing 5 stars and listing serious shortcomings... Here are mine.
Cons :
You have to cook with the lid on. Low with the lid on is 475 high is 525 degrees. Mother of Pearl!!! Steaks, fine. Ribs, forget it.
The assembly kit comes with two types of screws that are only 1/8 inch different in length. I used 2 of the longer ones someplace on my grill, then could not install the lid handle because what I had left was slightly too short.
The grill shipped with two parts missing and a sheet that said that if I happened to be missing any parts they would ship them to me at no charge... Hmmm....
There are significant hot and cold spots on the grill surface
Pros :
The form factor is perfect for my small balcony
The little tank makes it easy to move and to refill. It lasts forever too. No need for a biggie tank.
The ceramic grate doesn't rust and is a snap to clean
The electric start is STILL WORKING!!!

Don't bother, looks fancy, terrible function
Three basic issues with the grill:
1: If you don't cover it when it rains the rainwater floods the grease trap and floats cooking grease all over the inside or onto your deck/patio. Why pay all the money for 301 Stainless and have to cover the grill?
2. The shelves on the left and right are concave so they collect rain water about 1/8 inch deep.
3. A mild direct wind into the front of the grill causes blow outs when you are only lighting two or three burners.
Bottom Line: $1700 for a poorly designed fancy looking unit. Don't purchase it!
